Christmas 2012: OOTDs etc~

Hello all!

Ho ho ho! Well, Christmas is over for another year and I must admit, I'm not looking forward to the darkness and coldness of January and February. But anyway, I had a lovely Christmas and I wanted to share it with you all~

I went down to Somerset to spend Christmas with my aunt, uncle and grandma this year. It was a really long drive but I quite like long drives, as I get to sit in the back of the car with my music on and clear my thoughts.

We drove past Stonehenge on the way!

Once we arrived at our seemingly deserted inn, we discovered that it was rather shabby and more than a little bit creepy - the landlord wasn't the most likeable character either but it was ok.

The view from the car park of our inn...there's actually a
prison on the left side!

The place was very historical but it was also crammed full of strange oddities, like ceramic mushrooms with faces!

Some of the weird and wonderful things in our room...
that wheel light was particularly spooky!

Ok, now onto the main feature of the post - the outfits! We arrived on Christmas Eve and I was feeling rather retro that day (blame the history revision) so I decided to pair my newly-bought-but-much-sought-after denim jacket with a berry knit top and black skater skirt. I like the silhouette and I decided to add some spotty tights and my lace collar to the look. I topped it off with a chunky rose bracelet. For my makeup, I applied a large wing of eyeliner, mascara and white highlight. On my lips I used a combination of Estee Lauder's 'Beige' and 'Hot Kiss' to create a nudey-purply shade that was still light (although the picture doesn't do the colour justice!) Here is the result:

Top - Hand-me-down    Jacket - New Look
Skirt - New Look    Tights - Marks & Spencer
Collar - New Look    Bracelet - New Look
Shoes - New Look

For Christmas Day, I wanted to be more relaxed, so I broke in my new khaki jumper from New Look. I loved this jumper not just because of the colour, but because it has a really cool zip up the back (which my grandma rather scornfully suggested was 'an invitation to certain Korean males'). It's neutral too, so it should be a versatile piece to style. I paired it with my lilac jeans that were a birthday gift from Warehouse (although they do lose their shape once they've been worn for a while). I don't find trousers particularly flattering but it would be ridiculous to boycott them. For my makeup, I did intend to have just a hint of eyeliner, but it was a case of putting a little too much on one side...so adding more to the other side, only to make it more uneven, so adding more to the other side...you get the picture! I added a tint of this insane lilac lipgloss I got for about 50p reduced. It actually looks very pretty!

So that was my Christmas from a fashion point of view :)

OOTD: December 1st 2012

Simple Monochrome

Hello all!^^

So first things first, I am so sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time! With mock exams, my birthday, my dance group and various other things, I just don't know where the time has gone. Anyway, enough with the excuses - I actually took these pictures about 3 weeks ago, but I can't remember the date so I'll just label it for today xD

Lace top - Gift
Skater skirt - New Look
Cardigan - Independent store
Tights - Primark
Necklace - River Island

I received this lace top as a gift from my godmother in America, and I love it so much! It's lace, for one, but I also think that the cut and shape is very flattering. It has an extremely low back, which is slightly uncomfortable, but it's unusual and it's also a great piece for layering.

Here's a better view of the actual
pattern :)
I've had the skirt for a while now and I love it. My waist is unusually high so I often find it hard to find a skirt that I can wear on my waist without it being too short. This skirt was from the Tall section at New Look, so it's a little longer than regular skater skirts, which is great for me! I wanted to achieve a pared-down look, so I kept with the monochrome theme by wearing a standard white cable-knit and some black tights. I chucked on my trusty genie lamp necklace for a little bit of change and that was my outfit!

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed^^

Current Obsession: Dip Hem

Hello everyone!

I just bought a dip hem skirt from hiddenclothing on eBay (£7.99+P&P) and I'm a little bit addicted to it! I love swishing it around and I feel very elegant in it^^

I would really love a pale pink dip hem skirt since I'm a girly girl and I love pale pink. I can dress this up or down and I think it's really versatile. I also find it quite flattering.

So there we are!

Fashion Inspiration: Lolita & Bodyline

Lolita is a Japanese fashion culture, which takes its inspiration from English Victorian-era clothing. The focus was originally on modesty and the quality of the clothes. Lace, ample skirts and intricate details are classic Lolita elements, ade there are strict rules that must be adhered to. Here are some of my favourite Lolita sub-styles and some of the pieces from budget-replica store Bodyline (I'm too cheap to be able to afford actual brand Lolita, although imo it's extortionate anyway):

Sweet Lolita

Sweet Lolita consists of cute designs, bright colours and a lot of childlike designs - cakes and teddies are particularly popular.

Here are some items from Bodyline that I thought would work in a Sweet 'co-ord':

Gothic Lolita

Gothic Lolita is darker and more mature - black, purple and red are popular colours. Here are some Bodyline pieces that could work well in a Gothic co-ord:

Casual Lolita:

Casual Lolita is more toned-down, and usually involves incorporating just one or two Lolita aspects into everyday clothes - for example, a Lolita skirt with a simple blouse and headdress. Here are some Bodyline pieces that could work in a Casual co-ord:

Wa Lolita

Wa Lolita combines the staple Lolita silhouette with traditional Japanese clothing. This is one of my favourites, as it is very elegant and I love the mix of traditional with modern. Here are some Bodyline pieces that would work in a Wa co-ord:

Country Lolita

Country Lolita is quite similar to Sweet Lolita, however it is more focused on gingham, wicker baskets and fruit - I suppose you could say it is similar to Red Riding Hood! Here are some pieces that I think would work in a Country co-ord:

I had to put 5 up for country because they're all so lovely! I really want a Lolita dress, hopefully I will be able to afford one xD I have to say, I am in love with the red spotty one up there^
